Journey Series
The Journey Series of the Learn to Swim Program is designed around Themed Learning. There are seven Adventures within the Journey Book series, each with its own story and skill sheet. These aquatic adventures break down swimming skills into a simplified format. By providing an imaginative adventure to learning, the children are provided a fun way to develop new swimming skills. The story line for each adventure gives the instructor a creative way to introduce and teach individual swimming components. Themed learning, combined with the use of specific teaching techniques designed to break down barriers to learning, allow the children to progress quickly.
Parent involvement is critical to any childs learning process and highly encouraged. The Learn to Swim Journey program is interactive, involving child, instructor and parent through the use of the colorful take-home booklet. The booklet provides reinforcement of the learning themes at home, and also keeps the parent involved and aware of the childs activities and progress.
The Journey Book
The Journey Book holds 7 Adventures for the student. Each adventure is designed around specific skills. The adventure can be presented to students in any order that fits the skill level and developmental needs of the students. Therefore, students do not have to complete skills in progressions. The adventures include:
- Down Under the Sea Adjustments to Water
- Alligator Ally Buoyancy / Body Position
- Seals Rock Propulsion / Direction change
- Seaweed Patch Freestyle
- Otters Cove Backstroke
- Tadpole Pond Breaststroke
- Frogs Pond Elementary Backstroke
Dolphin's Den (Butterfly) and Flounders Farm (Sidestroke) are available in a separate book.
Each Journey Book includes water safety activity pages, designed specifically for the 4-7 age group and covering a wide variety of water safety skills.
Skill pages are provided with each adventure. As the children perform a component of the swimming skill, the instructor can check off, initial, stamp or place a sticker next to the detailed description of the component. A logo Swish stamp is available to purchase for this very reason.
Student - Instructor Ratio
6 Students per 1 Instructor.
